To kick off the study, you use an illustration of a pilot flying in the dark. As any experienced pilot will tell you, it’s easy to get into a dangerous situation when trusting your “feel” of the surroundings instead of relying on your instruments.
Watch this video of a pilot descending into Queenstown, New Zealand. As he heads toward the mountains, he approaches dense fog and cannot see the narrow landing strip target below. But the reliable instruments guide the way to a perfect landing (from about 2:25 to 3:30 of video).
