Session 2: Video
The year 1968 is ancient history to your teenagers. And although they may have heard about the Apollo 8 crew reading Genesis 1:1–10 while orbiting the moon on Christmas Eve, they probably haven’t seen a video of the actual television broadcast. Play the video and share these fun facts about the mission with your students:
- first humans to travel beyond low earth orbit
- first human-crewed spacecraft to leave earth, orbit the moon, and return safely to earth
- first humans to see the earth as a whole planet
- first humans to see the dark side of the moon directly
- paved the way for the landing on the moon in 1969 by Apollo 11
- the most-watched television broadcast of all time
What are your students’ responses?
