Session 10: Praying with Purpose
Richard Pratt’s book Pray with Your Eyes Open has some wonderful ideas for praying more creatively by using God’s attributes and scriptural names, titles, and metaphors for God.
As he writes, “Usually we address God by only a few titles: ‘Father,’ ‘God,’ ‘Lord,’ ‘Jesus,’ or ‘Christ.’ All of these names are full of wonderful meaning and should be used in prayer. Yet, very often Christians adopt these particular terms so much that they lose their significance. …
“The Bible provides countless ways of addressing God. … Sadly, we seldom hear these title of Christ used in prayer. Yet, each of them is packed full of powerful significance that draws us toward him.”
With that in mind, we’ve listed just a few examples from Pratt’s book below for you to email or post on your group’s Facebook page. (He has many more pages in his book.) Challenge your students (and yourself) to use them in your prayers this week—maybe even during your midweek meeting’s prayer session!
