Session 10: Bait-and-Switch Examples

Here are a few ideas for locating examples of bait-and-switch advertising:

  • Download the “Selling It” section of Consumer Reports magazine, which shows goofs, glitches, and gotchas in advertisements. Some aren’t true bait-and-switch techniques but instead are outright lies or funny errors your students may enjoy reading. Here’s the Consumer Reports “Selling It” from December 2012. You may also go to Consumer Reports and click to view the current issue. They sometimes post this section of the magazine on their website.
  • This article shows a few examples of “gotcha” packaging.

Note: Just because we link to an outside source doesn’t mean we endorse all the content on that site.
